What the Best Leaders Do

The best leaders make it their priority to develop other leaders. A few points that you're on the right path of developing leaders:

  • You delegate authority, not just responsibility. You identify high-capacity individuals and delegate the outcome and resource them with the authority, access, and opportunity to succeed.

  • You hire people smarter than you. You're not afraid of not having all the right answers all the time so you're happy to hire brilliant people and trust them to deliver. Your job shifts from primary answer person to primary support person.

  • You get your people promoted. You see opportunities for them to grow, coach them effectively through stretch projects, and ensure they are continuously developing their capacity.
